Lemon Ginger Tonic Recipe

In today’s post on Chasing the Muse blog, we’re sharing how to make the perfect spring & summer drink: lemon ginger tonic 🍋.

Not only is it supremely refreshing with just the right amount of kick, but ginger is also phenomenal for your digestion and blood sugar regulation. It’s packed with antioxidants and can help reduce inflammation, which is a root cause of many diseases. Add that powerhouse together with the mighty lemon, which is packed full of Vitamin C and can help protect cells from damage caused by free radicals. Cool right? What a duo!

This lemon ginger tonic is the perfect drink to make ahead of a busy week for wellness shots, with a lot of versatility. Add honey to make it a lemonade, or combine it with sparkling water and simply light lemonade to make a mocktail.

Ingredients

You’ll need these ingredients:

  • 4-5 lemons (enough for 1 freshly squeezed cup of lemon juice)

  • fresh ginger (about a 4 inch knob)

  • 1/4 -1/2 cup honey (optional/only need if making lemonade instead of tonic)

  • mint/lemon slices (to garnish)

Make sure you have these handy:

  • A blender

  • spoon or peeler

  • cutting knife

  • measuring cup

  • thin mesh strainer

How to make Lemon Ginger Tonic: My Favorite Wellness Recipe

I’ve included a step by step guide to making my lemon ginger tonic recipe next. If you’d like to print or save a copy of the recipe, please scroll to the bottom of this post for the printable recipe takeaway.

Instructions

Begin by selecting 4- 5 lemons.

Grab your hand juicer and slice a lemon in half.

Place the first half in the juicer, and squeeze the juice into a measuring cup. Continue with the other half, and repeat the process until you have 1 cup of lemon juice.

Squeeze 1 cup of lemon juice, which is somewhere between 4-5 lemons depending upon size. Once done, set to the side.

Next up is the ginger. Snap off about 4 inches of ginger, and use either a spoon or a peeler to remove the outer skin.

Then chop up the ginger into rough pieces. Keep in mind, it does not have to be perfect because it’s going into a blender.

Now add your ginger and cup of lemon juice to your blender.

Here is where you have a decision to make:

  • To make lemon ginger tonic: add just the ginger and lemon juice to the blender. It will be tart/bitter as expected. Great for shots, to drink alone, or to mix with lemon sparkling water and simply light lemonade for a refreshing mocktail. This is one of my favorite simple-to-make, wellness drinks to sip on during the spring and summer months.

  • To make ginger lemonade: add 1/2-1/4 cup honey (depending on desired sweetness level) into the blender with the ginger and lemon juice. This is delicious too! I make this a lot more in the summer. Also delicious mixed with unsweet iced tea for a twist on the classic arnold palmer.

Today, I’m just making lemon ginger tonic, but I love the versatility of this recipe. Easy to learn and tweak!

Once your ingredients are in the blender, blend well.

Next, pour the blended lemon ginger juice through a fine mesh strainer (I used a tea strainer) into a glass pitcher to catch the leftover ginger.

Throw away the strained ginger. You’re left with the lemon ginger juice in your pitcher.

For the final step, add 6 cups of water to your glass pitcher. Stir well, add lemon slices and mint leaves to garnish.

To serve, grab your favorite glass, and pour over ice. Add mint leaves and an optional lemon slice/wheel depending on the glassware of choice.
